Tote a Tote to the Grocery Store
11/14/2007
Santa Maria, CA
Thursday, November 15, 2007 is America Recycles Day. To bring awareness regarding
the importance of recycling to the residents in our community, City of Santa Maria
Utilities Department staff will be attending the local Farmer's Market on Wednesday,
November 14th, 12:15 p.m. to 3 p.m. at Town Center West, to distribute free tote bags.
The focus of this outreach will be "Tote A Tote Bag to the Grocery Store." Tote bags,
some made of recycled plastic bottles, will be given to Farmer's Market customers along
with other promotional materials. The goal is to encourage shoppers to stop using
paper and/or plastic bags when buying groceries by bringing reusable totes to the store.
Community partners include Waste Management, Foods Co. and American General
Media.
The City of Santa Maria Utilities Department consistently looks for innovative ways to
raise awareness of environmental issues that face our community. For many years,
staff has participated in a variety of public events to inform City residents about the
many department programs which are available to them. These include the distribution
of promotional items and materials about recycling, household hazardous waste
disposal and other environmental issues.
