America Recycles Day

America Recycles Day (ARD) is the only nationally recognized day dedicated to encouraging Americans to recycle and buy recycled products. Since its inception in 1997, the ARD campaign has grown to include millions of Americans pledging to increase their recycling habits at home and work, and to buy products made with recycled materials. Year after year, residents in every state of the nation participated in America Recycles Day events.

California Resource Recovery Association Keep California Beautiful and community partners are supporting events throughout California. These events provide various recycling opportunities and information through educational fairs on the benefits of environmental stewardship as related to resource management. We focus on broad interpretations of reduce, reuse, recycle and re-buy.

On November 15th each year, millions of people become better informed about the importance of recycling at home and work and buying recycled products as a result of the national America Recycles Day campaign.

California Recycles Day History

California has participated in America Recycles Day since it first became a national event, in 1997. Cities and counties throughout the state have organized a wide variety of events, from recycling collections to art contests to recycled product fairs, and more.

The "Buy Recycled" theme of the campaign helped people to understand that recycling is not complete until we make a commitment to buy and use recycled-content products.

Millions of California residents have taken part in these events, and thousands of people have pledged to increase their efforts to Reduce, Reuse, Recycle and Buy Recycled.

Make the Pledge now.

There are over 60 events throughout California already registered on the official America Recycles Day website. They range from 5K run/walk, tours of recycling facilities, E-Waste collection, Oil filter recycling, trash/recyclable clean ups, habitat restoration, vermi-composting presentations, recycling competitions, recycled art competitions, compact fluorescent and battery recycling events, to film screenings and educational fairs. These events are located throughout the state. Check the map of existing events and visit the official America Recycles Day website for additional information about events! If you are hosting an event during the month of November, please register it on the national America Recycles Day website.
Our key showcase event on November 15th this year will be in San Francisco and will include several public space beautification projects with various partners.

You don't have to attend a special event to have your own individual impact. You can check the America Recycles Day website for details on recycling in your community. Nothing can be more daunting to would-be recyclers than trying to figure out what can be recycled, when, where and how. The America Recycles Day website provides an easy to use Find Recycling information page to help answer your recycling questions. In addition we hope that every Californian will show that they want to "Keep California Beautiful" and take the America Recycles Day online pledge to learn about recycling in their community and to recycle one new type of material within the next month!
